Dealing with callouses

Your feet have to cope with a lot of stress and your skin protects itself by building up callouses - thick and hardened layers of skin.

Causes

  • Wearing shoes without socks can cause friction, which promotes callouses.

  • Standing for long periods doesn’t help, especially when overweight.

  • The older we get, the dryer our skin. This is very true for our feet.

Treatment

  • Take a warm soothing footbath to soften the skin; this makes it easier to remove hardened skin afterwards.

  • Use an intensive foot cream that gives the skin the extra moisture it needs to be soft and flexible again.

  • Special plasters will help you to remove callous skin.
