Cuts And Abrasions
How to treat minor wounds?
Remember to wash your hands carefully before treating a wound. Any break in the skin means a bacteria alert. Tell children not to pick at scabs if they start to itch.
Some simple steps for treating children’s wounds:
Stay calm and reassure the child it will all be okay.
Explain to the child what you are doing, that it might be a little painful but they will soon feel better.
A minor wound will soon stop bleeding, if it doesn’t, apply a little pressure to the spot with a non-stick pad until it stops.
If the bleeding continues, apply more gauze pads and keep the pressure on over the wound.
If there is anything embedded in the skin, don’t try to remove it. This should be left to a professional.
Always wipe away from the wound to avoid infection.
Let the area dry and then use a kid’s adhesive bandage.
Now you have calmed and treated your child, give the bandaged spot a kiss to say, ”There, now it will get better soon”.
