Burns

You can easily get burned by heat and fire but radiation, sunlight, electricity and chemicals are also potential dangers.

Treating burns and scalds

  • Check your surroundings, switch off electrical appliances and remove hot water before treating the casualty.

  • Cool the burnt or scalded area under cold running water for at least 10 minutes then dry gently and carefully.

  • You can also treat the burn wound with Hansaplast SOS Burn Spray, which quickly relieves pain and cools burns and scalds.

  • Apply a Hansaplast SOS Burn Plaster if you think you need a dressing; it cools instantly, protects and moisturizes the wound, reduces the risk of scarring and allows the wound to heal faster.

  • Tip: never put fat or butter onto burns or remove anything that is stuck to the skin, such as clothing. When in doubt, ask for medical advice.
