Dry skin can lead to cracks, especially on heels
Cracks on heels: from vertical to painful
Cracked heels are a common foot problem, especially as skin’s own elasticity decreases (usually with age), and are often referred to as heel fissures. At first this may be nothing but a nuisance and a cosmetic problem, but when the fissures or cracks become too deep, which can happen if footcare is neglected, they can even become painful to stand on.
Common reason
for cracked heels:
neglected footcare
Some people tend to have a naturally dry skin that predisposes them to the cracks. Sometimes, the thickened dry skin (callus) around the heel that is more likely to crack can be induced by mechanical factors that increase pressure in that area (i.e. walking, prolonged standing, open shoes).
