Our Research and Development team has thoroughly validated our Hansaplast Bacteria Shield plasters using three-phase in-vitro barrier testing to examine their performance.

This involved inoculating the plaster strips in petri dishes by applying droplets of bacteria suspension to the outer surface. We then incubated the strips at 37°C, close to normal human body temperature. After removing the strips from incubation, we counted colony-forming units (CFUs) to measure to presence of bacteria in the petri dishes. The results were resounding: Hansaplast Bacteria Shield plasters kept out 99% of the bacteria.

This is an established testing method based on international standards (DIN 58953-6). It is used to test the performance of a variety of Beiersdorf product lines, such as our Universal, Classic, Elastic, Sensitive, Aqua Protect, Extra Tough, Silicone Soft and Kids ranges.
